Rice High against DPreview!
I believe almost everyone here do read the DPreview tests. Few days ago they posted the Canon 550D review and also compared it with the Pentax K-x.
RiceHigh says that DPreview has not been completely honest in their judgment “In fact, I just have a strong feeling that the writers just don’t want to embarrass Canon against what they have found out and noticed themselves, which is just so obvious and easily noticeable. So, they have to write some words to counter-balance the facts!”
That’s a strong statement “against” dpreview . Do you agree with Rice-High?
Editor’s note: I fully respect Dpreview but I admit that also to me the Pentax K-x images do look better than the Canon 550d
images.

2 years ago |I agree the images from the Kx look significantly better at all settings. Rice High has a good point.

2 years ago |Well, they did say that:
“Noise is a factor in images from all four of these cameras at ISO 1600 and above, although the Pentax K-x offers the best combination of smoothness and detail retention at default settings up to and including ISO 6400. It’s a close run thing though, and it is obvious from these images how much better the Canon EOS 550D is compared to the older 500D, despite a hike in pixel count. Output from the 500D is simply too blurred to be useful at ISO 6400 and above, except for undemanding, small-sized output.”
Rice High can go fly a kite high. It’s a pity that despite this little advantage that the Kx has on the 550D, the Kx pretty much screws up the rest of the features…. Excuse me sir, which AF point am I focusing on right now? And ofcourse, it is a 12mpx sensor vs the 18mps sensor… And you end up with a close run? hmmm Pentax’s better buck up…
The 18mpx sensor vs the 14mpx K7? I think it is a slam dunk… My advice – dump Samsung and work with Panasonic

I would think someone is High on something if they don’t see more details in the T2i.
- Look at theat Pure Brewed Text on the bottle.
- Look at that extra details on the red swatch
- Look at that extra details on the Helias bottle
I think it is pretty convincing that the T2i has more details than the Kx at ISO 1600.
I support Pentax, but they’ve got to wake up to the reality. Go figure out the market and make the right alliances. I will fork out whatever amount you demand and buy your camera, but first you have to convince me. Not just by blind fan-boyism but by true value propositions.
I am watching your 645D series very closely.

2 years ago |It looks to me as if dpreview is indeed saying that K-x is the best at high iso’s:
“At ISO 1600 and above, however, the performance gaps become clear, with the EOS 500 giving the noisiest results with the least detail, and the Pentax K-x delivering the best output in our opinion, with plenty of detail still showing through the (inevitable) noise even at ISO 12800.
The EOS 550D is a middle ground. Images are less noisy than those from the slightly lower resolution 500D, but detail isn’t quite as well defined as it is in images from the K-x.”
What am I missing?
I bought a K-x believeing it would be the best APC-S camera available, but it turned out that my old 20D was even better, so I sold it.

2 years ago |Best in terms of low noise at high iso’s that is. In jpeg it might be, but not in raw.

2 years ago |Do not blame Pentax, blame RiceHigh
Btw, megapixel warriors: Nikon D3S with 12 mpixels against your 550D’s 18 mpixels? Lol, that camera beats every other cameras in the market in terms of image quality. And I haveve Pentax, not a Nikon.

2 years ago |I’m sorry, but RiceHigh is just the Pentax version of Ken Rockwell in my opinion… Lots and lots of hot air…
