New Pentax mirrorless rumors (a digital Auto 110 is coming)
[shoplink 1807]
[/shoplink]
What a coincidence! First there was that statement on Dpreview: “Pentax on mirrorless: ‘we never rule anything out“. The day after Photorumors posted a new mirrorless rumor: “Pentax is currently working on two different cameras with interchangeable lenses. The first one will be a digital version of the [shoplink 1807]Pentax Auto 110[/shoplink] wich is actually a tiny SLR type camera (pictured on top).”
And now we form k-rumors received a rumor saying that the camera will be announced within the next 2-3 months and feature a smaller than APS-C sized sensor. The “real” APS-C sized mirrorless system will be announced late 2011.
I am surprised to hear that Pentax “could” announce two different mirrorless systems. It’s a real huge step (and risk?) but I like the fatc that Pentax is trying to have a different and multiple approach on mirrorless! Let’s see, soon we will know if all those rumors were true…

2 years ago |Will it be 2 separate mounts? One mount with two different lens sizes (like FF and APS-C)? Or one mount with one lens size (what’s the point?)? Or maybe they’ll be joining both M43 and NEX or NX, producing bodies and lenses for both. After all, except M43, who makes smaller than APS-C size DSLR sensors?
I doubt the two sensor sizes rumor: why confuse consumers with two offers targeting the same segment?

2 years ago |Yes. With the DA Limited this will be the best mirrorless system!

2 years ago |Pentax Optio I-10?? But with interchangeable lenses? Auto 110 didnt have a diaphragm. I like the idea, but the quality should be like an entry level DSLR to be successful (see NEX). Having four interchangeable lens systems doesnt make sense for a small company (645, K-mouth, EVIL and 110D). 645D, K-mouth (APS-C and APS), EVIL (APS-C) would be better.

2 years ago |Two differently-sized sensors, one in a format that’s smaller than what they’re used to, and smaller than the main competition? I won’t even believe it if I ever see it (which I highly doubt).
Pentax is way too small to take this kind of stupid, unnecessary risk, too small to even develop those two redundant systems properly (remember: different sensor size, if it is to make any sense at all, also requires different lenses)… no, it just doesn’t make any sense.
The only small glimmer of sense I could see would be… no, it was just a fata morgana.
No way is this true. Pentax (or any other cameramaker) will never have two redundant and competing mirrorless systems.

Not just similar, virtually identical:
110 17 × 13mm
m4/3 17.3 mm × 13 mm

2 years ago |It probably points also that Sony is making this sensor for pentax mirrorless and Nikon mirrorless. It is said that Nikon mirrorless will be smaller than APS-C (to take advantage of lenses size, APS-C causes lenses to be big)

2 years ago |If you crop down the K-5 sensor to M43 size, it would be a huge step up in image quality in the m43 segment.
But, I of course hope they are going to use the full size aps-c sensor from K-5 in the digital auto 110.
Shit, Pentax, you are my favorite camera company! Give me my dream camera, an aps-c mirrorless with the K-5 sensor and really good button and meny layot!
Then give me Full Frame digital Pentax MX. Big sensor, small body. I would pay MUCH for that.

2 years ago |So after procrastinating for quite some time about wether or not to issue a mirrorless and pondering the rentability of using 2 lens mounts, Pentax would issue 2 different lines in one year?
I don’t believe that for a moment!
Pentax is barely able to provide enough lenses for their current minimalist setup and they would suddenly be able to sustain 4 different lens lines (APS-C with mirror, APS-C without mirror, samll sensor mirrorless adn 645)?
Where are the lens factories?
As much as would like to see it, I don’t think it makes sense.

I actually think joining m4/3 wouldn’t hurt.. Maybe APS-C mirrorless maybe just means doing something like the A55/A33 not pure mirrorless but still on the way.. That means K mount would remain for A33 style cameras, and m4/3 mount for m4/3 body and lenses, which may just mean Pentax steal some marketshare from Oly/Pana without having to start another bloody mount. We just have too many mounts these days, this way Pentax users would buy Pentax m4/3 bodies as would some new users and Pentax would be selling lenses to ALL m4/3 users not just their own as we know they can make good SMALL lenses…
