(K3) First infos about the K-5 and K-r
OGL posted first info about the upcoming Pentax K-5 and K-r. Just a reminder: OGL is a very known pentaxforum user and he seems to have good rumor “sources”. There is a fair chance that those info are correct.
PENTAX K-5:
- 16 million pixels (SONY new sensor)
- ISO 25600
- 7 frames per sec
- ¥ 139,000 (too high price – $1625 
)
- announcement on September 20
- Released in mid-October
PENTAX KR:
- 12 million pixels
- 6 frames per sec
- 10 color of body and 12 color grip, as the combination 120 colours
- 74,800 yen ($875)
- Released in mid-October

2 years ago |Both cameras are to expensive to be true, I can’t believe this rumor, it makes no sens…The Nikon D90 will be about 1200 USD and will have 39 AF points and a lot of goodies.

2 years ago |I thought that pentax was different from canikon? I think they make fairly quality cameras but come on – one of their major selling points are moot: value, lenses are cheaper (DA * are on par with all other manufacturers). Even long time pentax users have complained that the lens prices have skyrocketed. I doubt that lens quality has skyrocketed along with them.
According to this post, the K-r is approximately equivalent to the k-7 in terms of price. Its got a worse sensor too it seems (14.6 vs. 12). K-x is affordable but at these prices I’m much more apt to go elsewhere. noise profile on k-7 is worse than on e-pl1/gf1/e-p1. Don’t even get me started on AF.
I’d love to support you pentax and your colorado business but its really not happening at these prices. K-x is super fugly too… forget the 1000 colors it looks like a brick. I guess m4/3 it is… but they price gauge too ARG

2 years ago |If the K-r is an updated K-x visible AF points, I think people will buy it at that price. Remember, most reviewers consider the K-x to be a very good bargain, and the price of the K-r will come down after the initial release. Maybe the colors are popular in Japan, I don’t know.
As for the k-5, there must be some distinguishing characteristic besides weather sealing for Pentax to justify charging 2x the k-r. We’ll have to wait and see.
I do wish Pentax would expand it’s lineup. I’ll probably end up using my pk lenses on a mirrorless because I want to have access to all the other adapters.

He also told us there would also be all of the following from Pentax in 2010 (http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-news-rumors/75228-hoya-pentax-2010-big-speculation.html):
* New camera with crop-sensor with 8-9 fps (higher specs than K-7)
* FF camera with 5 new FF lenses
* Micro-APS system
* 645D (no secret, Pentax have been saying it’s coming for ages)
So now we’re supposed to believe that (if we assume his first camera above is the supposed K-5), within the next four months, Pentax will release four more interchangeable lens cameras, in four different form factors (micro-APS, APS-C, FF), with two different lens mounts?
If you throw enough darts at the wall, eventually one will stick by chance. How is this a reliable user? Perhaps k-rumors could actually start keeping track of this kind of stuff themselves, before promoting people’s wish lists and rumors as being forthcoming products?

2 years ago |Din, you mean to say that the conversions were incorrect? Thank you for correct ones; I’m hoping that KR is lower in price but I will consider $700ish if it is weather resistant. However, there are many other options at this price point so I I have to keep waiting until photokina announcements are done.

2 years ago |The KR looks great. It probably has the same sensor as the KX which of course isn’t a bad thing and it will fix the minor issues the KX has such as auto focus points in the viewfinder and it will possibly get a proprietary battery from what I’ve read.
A faster shoot rate is also welcomed. Hopefully they’ll have sorted out the fast shutter blur issue that some cameras had and also the battery issue if they continue to use AA’s.
