(K4) Pentax roadmap for 2010
In the past weeks I found many rumors in forums and blogs. But as always there is no way to know if they are fake or real. There is a lot of hype around Pentax going fullframe and now K-rumors has finally got more reliable information what’s coming from Pentax.
Now I have a double confirmation from our sources (and one more from a new source) and they all say Pentax won’t go fullframe in 2010! Maybe in year 2011 but definitely do not expect fullframe cameras in 2010.
What should you expect for the next year? As you already know the Pentax 645D is coming in March. There should be also minor upgrades in current lines of camera. Our new source also said that there will be the include("buy/k7.php"); ?> successor (maybe for Photokina in September?).
This are news coming from source which I know since years. We will see if we were right!
cheers

3 years ago |I don’t know how people can even suggest a full frame camera is part of the Pentax roadmap, unless they are referring to the 645D.
If you look at the current lineup of 28 lenses, only 7 will work on a full frame camera (the D FA and FA series). The majority of current Pentax lenses (and all of the newest designs) have been engineered specifically for their APS-C digital SLRs.
So…no FF for 2010, and no FF for the foreseeable future. Not without an entirely new FF-compatible lens lineup.
Miserere
3 years ago |The thing is, I think by the time Pentax are in a position to release a FF camera (they can make it affordable, have a solid lens line-up, etc), FF will have been made almost redundant by the advances in sensor technology. People will already be getting what they want from a FF sensor (more pixels and better high-ISO performance) with an APS-C camera, so why will they spend a lot more money on a FF camera?
The only way will be if Pentax makes their FF camera top-of-the line and relegates APS-C to mid-lower level bodies. This means no more cameras like the K-7 with an APS-C sensor. This makes marketing sense, but would seriously piss off many current Pentaxians who value small size and high performance over big sensors and large bodies.
Cheers,
