Could Samsung make a more advanced EX1/TL500 compact camera?

Alexramos shared his thoughts about possible EX1 improvements (dpreview forum)

Samsung has almost the most perfect advanced compact camera in the market right now, the EX1/TL500.
The 10MPx CCD sensor on it camera, undoubtedly offer the highest image quality (together its excellent Schneider- KREUZNACH lens), but due to CCD technology, some limitations are found in this camera like high ISO, video resolution and frame per second.
For the market average this camera is above it, but could have improvement with just a few changes.
Sensor:
Actually the market is following the high ISO quality, HD video and high rate of fps and sadly a CCD sensor can ́t give those features, looking for CMOS technology is necessary.
This 1/1.7” 10MPx CCD sensor has shown what a good and responsible design can be offered to small scale, without necessary go to 12 or 14MPx on continually smaller chip.
Samsung is, globally, the second CMOS sensor maker, this technology is not strange for it; they just need the right size and specification.
Using the same sensor size on EX1/TL500, the same mega pixels resolution (10MPx) but on a CMOS sensor, it new Samsung CMOS sensor could resolve the HD capability (1080p/30), high rate fps (10fps) and high ISO image quality (ISO 3200-6400 to full resolution). Just look what the Sony 10MPx 1/2.3” Exmor R sensor can do.
Samsung already has been exploring the back-side illuminated sensor technology, why not a back-light CMOS sensor?
Lens:
Actually the 3X Schneider-KREUZNACH 24-72.5mm f/1.8-2.4 (5.2-15.6mm) is the fastest zoom lens on an advanced compact camera and has showed its optical quality.
For almost everybody (myself include) this focal range is enough, but the users every day are more exigent and the competence is stronger.
Extending the focal range to 4.4X and keeping the 24mm wide angle (5.2mm), the total focal range of this lens could reach 24- 105.6mm (5.2-22.9mm). Keeping the same diaphragm aperture for f/2.4 at 73.5mm (15.6mm) of 6.5mm of diameter, the new long-end aperture would be of f/3.5.
With just to add 1.6mm to the diaphragm aperture (8.1mm), we would have a 24-105.6mm f/1.8-2.8.
Interface and connection:
Starting with the AMOLED display, the only improvement in this feature could be a new SuperAMOLED display. To keep the right harmony between “display-controls-design”, no more than 3.3” diagonal size display could be put and Samsung already has a 3.3” 800×480 SuperAMOLED display adding extra advantage: less power consume and thinner/lighter swivel display.
With FullDH performance, a HDMI (or mini-HDMI) connector along with a mini-USB port (image download and battery charger) and WiFi wireless capability would cover everything.
Adding to a compact camera a built-in EVF would make it a compact camera anymore, an external-optional EVF with simple specifications to the most demanding users would be enough.
Design and control:
The EX1/TL500 size and design is almost perfect, easy to
handle and hold.
The swivel AMOLED display continues being the best option along an external-optional EVF.
Every advanced-compact camera (no super-zoom or bridge) has a zoom electrically controlled, activated through a button. Everybody is accustomed to use this system, but what would be if the zoom of this camera could be controlled mechanically through a ring around the lens? and something else, what would be if also the focus system could be controlled though a ring around the lens? In the latter case through a focus-by-wire system like the mirroless camera lenses.
The 2 mode dials on top of EX1/TL500 could offer more flexibility and useful to the users. To include custom mode, others BKR options, dynamic range mode and format mode (RAW-JPEG) would allow get more attention of media and advanced users. The second selector rear dial could be positioned like the front dial, to be reached with the thumb instead around of 4 way rear button.
Performance and final specifications:
The completely new “EX2/TL550” camera, with all the new features, could offer:
-10MPx 1/1.7” CMOS sensor
-5fps and 10fps modes
-ISO 84-6400 (full resolution)
-Shutter speed: bulb, 1/60s-1/4000s
-Intervalometer (time-lapse) and shutter time selection (like NX10)
-FullHD 1080p/30-25, 720p/60-50 and 720p/30-25 -Stereo audio -4.4X Schneider-KREUZNACH zoom 24-105.6mm f/1.8-2.8 -Zoom and focus controlled by rings -Built-in pop-up flash GN10 -3.3” (800×480) swivel SuperAMOLED diaplay -External-optional EVF (include) -Remote wireless control (include) -External battery charger (include) -Better RAW time processing -High lights priority mode -Multiple exposures panorama mode -Multiple exposures IS low-light mode -Autofocus tracking mode
-Email, social network and online galleries applications to videos and pictures uploading
